TJX Companies, Inc.

TJX Companies, Inc. is a discount retailer, with popular brands including: Marshalls and T.J. Maxx.  It started in 1919 when brothers Max and Morris Feldberg founded New England Trading Company in Massachusetts. Due to the success of the business, a decade later, the brothers opened their first retail store, selling ladies hosiery. Two more decades passed and by 1949 they had an entire chain of women’s apparel stores spanning New England to Washington D.C. Some time later, the next generation carried on this good work and the Zayre discount department store chain was born, offering “convenience, selection and outstanding value for the whole family.” But it was Ben Cammarata in the mid 1970s who was behind the launch of T.J. Maxx and with this success, the result was The TJX Companies, Inc., that is today the leading off-price retailer of apparel and home fashions in America and around the world.
