Headquartered in Florida and established in 1939 by George W. Jenkins, Publix Super Markets, Inc. (commonly known as Publix) is a chain of supermarkets in America. In 2011, it was ranked no. 67 on Fortune magazine’s list of 100 Best Companies to Work For and no. 6 on Forbes’ list of America’s Largest Private Companies in the same year. It has a staff of 140,000+ throughout its 1,056 retail locations, grocery distribution centers, cooking schools and manufacturing facilities. It is currently one of America’s largest regional grocery chains – one of a very few which have more than 1,000 locations nationwide.
