John Paulson: Paulson & Co.

Headquartered in New York, Paulson & Co. is an investment management company founded in 1994 by John Paulson. However, it took until 2008 for the company to rise to peak following its achievement in the world financial crisis.  It was Paulson who accurately predicted the collapse of the subprime mortgage market, enabling him to reap profits totaling more than $3 billion.   The company administers domestic and offshore merger arbitrage/event driven funds for institutional and high net-worth clients.  Currently, it has 8 hedge funds under management: its flagship Paulson Advantage Fund, the Paulson Advantage Plus Fund, the Gold fund, Paulson Partners, Paulson Enhanced, Paulson Recovery, Paulson Real Estate Recovery, and the Credit Opportunities Fund.  In 2009, the company launched the Paulson Real Estate Recovery Fund as a way of investing in distressed real estate markets.  The following year the Paulson Gold Fund was launched, with a focus on long-term investments in mining companies and bullion-based derivatives.
