James W. Basson is the CEO and MD of Shoprite Holdings Ltd. Probably one of Basson’s biggest achievements is the honor bestowed on him with Stellenbosch University (SU)’s award he received of Doctor in Commerce (DComm) honoris causa at its graduation ceremony in December 2010. Being widely respected for his business acumen, Basson is known for his business philosophy, centered around the improvement of people’s lives, as evidenced by the Shoprite Group’s involvement in many aid and charitable projects as well as Basson’s personal involvement.
