Google

Larry Page and Sergey Brin co-founded Google in 1998 with their own limited resources and that of friends and relatives. Soon Stanford University invested money in the project in addition to other private investors. “We had to use all of our credit cards and our friends’ credit cards and our parents’ credit cards.” Larry Page

In 2001 the company had over 200 employees. At this juncture they appointed a CEO to run the company, Dr. Eric Schmidt. In 2004 Google went public, but the two founders are still highly involved in the daily running of Google.
