Dow Jones & Company

Dow Jones & Company was founded by three journalists in 1882, Charles Dow, Edward Jones and Charles Bergstresser. The firm is an American publishing giant with a specialty in financial information. In recent days the company is publically traded although it is privately owned. After a prolonged takeover bid in 2007 Dow Jones became a subsidiary of News Corporation, thus ending its 105 years of control and ownership by the Bancroft family. In 2010 the firm sold 90% of its Dow Jones Indexes to the CME Group. The sale included the renowned Dow Jones Industrial Average.
