Founded in 1999 and headquartered in Nevada, Zappos.com is an online shoe and clothing store. It was acquired by Amazon.com in July 2009 in a deal worth approximately $1.2bn. It is today, the largest online shoe store. Eighty percent of its business is shoe sales, with around 50,000 varieties of shoes sold, including big name brands as well as niche markets and Zappos Couture which are high-end shoes. In 2007 the store expanded to selling clothing and various accessories.
