Anvil Improves Copper Mining In the Congo

Anvil Mining LTD has just finished a new plant at its Kinsevere copper mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The plant should start operations this quarter and should increase its yearly copper production three fold to 60,000 tonnes of copper cathode. A company spokesman said that most of the cathodes produced at the plant meet the grade A specifications of the London Metal Exchange.

Anvil has solid financial statements and I expect their profits to rise together with their new productive capacity. Their stock has been leveled off over the last year, but I also expect that that will rise with expected profits.

One of the investors, Trafigura, is planning on selling its shares which total 39% of the company. Anvil has hired BMO Capital Markets to help with a strategy review. In aditon, an Australian newspaper has reported that a Chinese company has shown “serious interest” in acquiring Anvil. The report added that the mystery purchaser is probably not the Jinchuan Group.

In terms of the management, Philippe Monier is a Corporate VP and the CFO. He has 25 years of experience in international finance, many of them in the mineral and mining fields. Robert La Valliera is the VP of Corporate Affairs. He has a BS in Geology and MBA and has over 25 years experience in the mining industry. Lui Evangelista is the assistant Financial Controller. He has much experience in finance and is a CPA and also has an MBA. In other words, I feel that the management is very competent.

And best of all, the price is right, only $6.30 per share.
