Born in 1942, J. Larry Nichols was educated at Princeton University, earning a BA in geology from there in 1964. Nichols also has a law degree from the University of Michigan Law School, where he graduated from in 1967. With his father John Nichols he launched the Oklahoma City-based Devon Energy in 1971, and took over the chairmanship in 2000. Nichols was the CEO of Devon from 1980 until 2010, and President from 1976 until 2003. Nichols is also a Director at Baker Hughes, Inc. and Sonic Corporation.
