Based in San Francisco, Genentech is seen as the “founder of the biotechnology industry,” in which it has been working for more than three decades. It utilizes human genetic data to “discover, develop, manufacture and commercialize medicines to treat patients with serious or life-threatening medical conditions.” It now stands within the top leading biotech companies throughout the world, boasting a variety of products as well as potentially a development pipeline. In 2009 Genentech became a member of the Roche Group, which saw the two companies joining together their pharmaceutical operations nationwide.
