Clayton L. Mathile

Clayton Mathile was born in 1941 in a small Ohio town called Portage, where is parents owned and worked a 40-acre farm. Mathile is an American entrepreneur, investor and philanthropist who became famous from taking the Iams Company and leading it to its eventual sale to Procter and Gamble for $2.3 billion in 1999.

Mathile first began his rise to fame and fortune in 1970 when he accepted a job as a sales manager at a small regional pet food manufacturer, the Iams Food Company in Dayton, Ohio. In time he took over the company by becoming its sole owner, CEO and chairman. Mathile’s key to success was his commitment to creating products that were superior nutritionally as well as his innovative marketing strategies.

Mathile’s philanthropic efforts concentrate on bringing quality education to low-income children, and helping children and their families by fighting hunger and malnutrition. Most of these charitable efforts are centered in the Dayton, Ohio area.
