Chrysler Corporation

Walter Chrysler founded Chrysler Corporation in 1925 when the Maxwell Motor Company was reorganized into the company which we know today. Chrysler is today a US-based multinational carmaker with a global strategic partnership with is primary owner, Fiat. Chrysler has its US headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan, a Detroit suburb.

Chrysler went through a major, government backed, Chapter 11 reorganization, and as of June 10, 2009 Chrysler LLC became the Chrysler Group LLC, in alliance with Fiat, a major Italian automaker. At first Fiat’s stake in Chrysler was only 20 percent, but its holding increased to 58.5 percent after the acquisition of equity interests held by the US Treasury and Canada. In July 2012 Fiat’s interest increased to 61.8 percent.
